      Maj.-Gen. Sir Alexander Augustus Frederick William Alfred George Cambridge, 1st Earl of Athlone was the son of Franz Paul Karl Ludwig Alexander Herzog von Teck and Mary Adelaide Wilhelmina Elizabeth Hanover, Princess of Cambridge. He was born on 14 April 1874 at Kensington Palace, Kensington, London, England.1 He married Alice Mary Victoria Augusta Pauline Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, Princess of Albany, daughter of Leopold George Duncan Albert Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, 1st Duke of Albany and Hélène Frederike Auguste Prinzessin zu Waldeck und Pyrmont, on 10 February 1904 at St. George's Chapel, Windsor Castle, Windsor, Berkshire, England.1,2 He died on 16 January 1957 at age 82 at Kensington Palace, Kensington, London, without surviving male issue.1,3
