Alice Mary Victoria Augusta Pauline Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, Princess of Albany was the daughter of Leopold George Duncan Albert Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, 1st Duke of Albany and Hélène Frederike Auguste Prinzessin zu Waldeck und Pyrmont.2 She was born on 25 February 1883 at Windsor Castle, Windsor, Berkshire, England.1 She married Maj.-Gen. Sir Alexander Augustus Frederick William Alfred George Cambridge, 1st Earl of Athlone, son of Franz Paul Karl Ludwig Alexander Herzog von Teck and Mary Adelaide Wilhelmina Elizabeth Hanover, Princess of Cambridge, on 10 February 1904 at St. George's Chapel, Windsor Castle, Windsor, Berkshire, England.1,2 She died on 3 January 1981 at age 97 at Kensington Palace, Kensington, London, England.1
She gained the title of HRH Princess Alice of Albany.3 She gained the title of Princess Alice of the United Kingdom.4 As of 10 February 1904, her married name was von Teck. She was invested as a Lady, Royal Order of Victoria and Albert (V.A.).2 As of 14 July 1917, her married name was Cambridge. Through her marriage, Alice Mary Victoria Augusta Pauline Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, Princess of Albany gained the title of Countess of Athlone on 16 July 1917.5 She graduated from London University, London, England, with a honorary Doctor of Literature (D.Litt.).2 She gained the rank of Honorary Colonel in the service of the 12th Pretoria Regiment, South African Infantry.2 She was invested as a Dame Commander, Order of the British Empire (D.B.E.) in 1937.2 She was invested as a Dame Grand Cross, Order of the British Empire (G.B.E.).6 She was invested as a Dame Grand Cross, Royal Victorian Order (G.C.V.O.).6 She has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.7
